Well, veneers are thin, thin pieces of porcelain that we actually bond to the teeth. Sometimes we have to reshape the teeth first before we put those thin porcelain veneers on there. But we're able to control color in most instances. We're able to control the shape and the size. We're able to close spaces. We're able to put some little characteristics in there that make it look more lifelike, as some people may have had some medical procedure done or taken some medicine early in their life that causes their teeth to be stained. So, when we do the veneers, we're able to cover that up.
Someone may have some malformed teeth. Matter of fact, I have two veneers myself, because my natural teeth are formed in such a way, they don't even look like real teeth. So, we were able ... I had two colored filling on there for a long time. Now, I have veneers. They were placed in 1999. So here it is 2019, I've never had a moment's trouble with them. Now, I didn't do my own veneers. But the gentleman that did, that's 20 years, and they're still in place. And so the longevity is huge with veneers. I think they're awesome.
Veneers offer many other advantages too. They are:
- Faster Than Some Other Treatments – It’s often possible to complete dental veneers treatment in just two visits to our office.
- Long Lasting – Made of highly durable materials like porcelain, teeth veneers will last for decades with proper care.
- Minimally Invasive – Unlike a dental crown or other restorations, we need to remove only a very small amount of enamel from teeth to prepare them for veneers.
- Good for Your Teeth – Applying veneers to the front surfaces of your teeth makes your smile stronger and less prone to damage.

You have two choices of materials for veneers: porcelain and composite resin. While there are some differences, both kinds of dental veneers are durable and should look great for many years. They both cover a wide range of imperfections, including chips, stains, and small gaps in your smile.
Dr. Barker will help you determine which one will work best for you. Among the factors you’ll consider:
- Your lifestyle
- The condition of your teeth
- Where veneers will be used in your smile
- Your budget
No matter which one you choose, you should be able to receive your veneers in as few as two visits to our office.
Further Improve Your Smile With Other Cosmetic Dental Treatments
If you’d like a brighter smile, we recommend teeth whitening treatment before getting your veneers. That way, Dr. Barker can match the color of your veneers to your whitened teeth. You may also want to consider a teeth contouring treatment for teeth with only minor flaws, such as a small chip or an uneven edge.
